"Continuation of the (Palestinian) occupation, brutality and aggression of the Zionist regime (Israel) and potentials of the regime's nuclear weapons are certainly serious threats to the region and the entire world," said Iran's envoy to the Vienna-based international bodies Ali Asghar Soltanieh, quoted by IRNA.
"Continuation of crisis in the Middle East emanates from inattention and silence of the international community about occupation of the Palestinian lands and ignorance of rights of its people," he added Monday in an address on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
He expressed Iran's solidarity with the Palestinian people and officials who "bravely defend their inalienable rights."
The Iranian diplomat said massacre of Palestinian children and women, assassinations, blockade of Palestinian regions, destruction of houses and infrastructures and the construction of the apartheid wall are among clear examples of Israeli-sponsored terrorism and racism.
"The United Nations recognized the brutality of the Zionist regime in Gaza as a war crime but blockade of the strip, the biggest prison in history, still persists," he emphasized, urging the international community to take "more serious measures to stop such crimes and killings."
He pointed out that lack of 'peace plans' is not the reason behind ongoing problems in the Middle East and slammed Israel's inaction over the violation of international law and the UN Charter.
Soltanieh went on to stress that "the Zionist regime neither respects international law nor does it heed recommendations by its allies and supporters."
He reiterated that Israel has always portrayed regional countries as obstacles to peace and stability in the region and said, "The regime [is the one that] resorts to such a policy to export its crises to other countries."
The Iranian envoy called on the international community to strongly condemn Israeli offenses and fight the root causes of crimes against humanity.
He noted that the occupation of Palestine is not merely an issue of concern for Arab states and over a billion Muslims but one that concerns all across the globe.
"Any effort aimed at reaching a temporary and optional peace agreement with certain countries in the region is doomed to failure," he said.
The Islamic Republic strongly believes that complete restoration of Palestinians' rights, including the return of all refugees to their homeland and holding a referendum with participation of all Palestinian people, would be the only practical way to establish sustainable peace and security.
