Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi described the production of the missile system as yet another achievement by Iranian defense experts, saying "the Karrar anti-aircraft defense system will be inaugurated on August 22." The Iranian defense minister told reporters in a press conference on Tuesday that a high-speed bladerunner named as Seraj and the new generation of Zolfaghar missile-launcher bladerunner have also been produced domestically and will be launched in the "Government Week" 24-31 August. Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran in an attempt to counter a US weapons embargo on the country after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The Islamic Republic has managed to produce home-made missiles, fighter jets and other defensive weapons.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
