Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani has warned the United States and Israel against their aggressive efforts, saying the two would surely face “minefields.”
"After the disgrace in (US-brokered) talks (between the Palestinian Authority and Israel), certain clumsy measures taken in Lebanon are another defeated adventurism," IRNA quoted Larijani as saying in an address to the open session of Majlis on Tuesday. "The US and the Zionist regime (Israel) will definitely face minefields at this juncture," he added.

North Korea is prepared to wage a "holy war" against the south, including using its nuclear weapons, the country's armed forces minister warned.
His warning came as South Korea staged a massive show of force aimed at deterring further aggression from their volatile neighbour.
The North's defence chief, Kim Yong Chun, told a patriotic rally to celebrate the military achievements of the country's ailing dictator Kim Jong-il, that Pyongyang was "fully prepared to launch a sacred war" if the South encroached on its territory.
South Korea yesterday staged its largest military exercise of the year exactly a month after a North Korean artillery bombardment against a South Korean island killed four, dramatically raising tensions on the Peninsula.

U.S. envoy tells a Maine television network that no president would stand by and let the Mideast conflict erupt as it would not be in America's strategic interests.
By Barak Ravid
U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell said on Thursday in an interview on The Maine Public Broadcasting Network that the United States government would not terminate its involvement in the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians, as a lack of U.S. involvement in the region could lead to an outbreak of violence.
"I think that any president would not simply stand by and let a conflict erupt because it would not be in our interest,' Mitchell said.

Iran's president says the era of using missiles and nuclear weapons in politics is over and Tehran is not concerned about the deployment of missile systems.
"Relations between Iran and Turkey are strong and not easily damaged," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in reference to the deployment of NATO missile systems in Turkey during a press conference on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Thursday. In November, Turkey accepted the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) decision to deploy a missile system on its soil after NATO conceded not to single out Iran as a target in its missile plan.

The Knesset Finance Committee gave its nod to the budget bill for 2011-12 yesterday. Next Wednesday the budget will be submitted for a Knesset vote on all three legislative readings required for it to become law. The defense establishment's demand for increased funding will be considered separately by the Knesset next month.
The defense establishment is expected to have NIS 2-3 billion added to its budget at the beginning of the year, senior officials at the Knesset said yesterday. This is expected after the Knesset Defense Budget Committee approved the two-year defense budget without additions. The first indication of a supplementary amount for defense came yesterday when the Finance Ministry submitted a request to the Knesset Finance Committee to increase the 2010 defense budget by NIS 400 million. This comes on top of the NIS 3.5 billion transferred to the defense establishment over the course of the current year.
